Roles & Responsibility of medical transcription

         An allied health profession called medical transcription, or MT for short, deals with the process of transcribing voice-recorded medical reports that are given out by doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. Voice files, lecture notes, or other spoken materials can be used as medical reports. These are transcribed verbatim over the phone and then digitally uploaded to the Internet or mobile apps.

Medical transcription includes the work of the medical transcriptionist, who types and formats documents in accordance with predetermined standards or formats by converting spoken information about a patient's treatment into written, easily legible form. For a transcription to be accurate, all terms and words must be spelled correctly, and any dictation or medical terminology errors must be fixed. Additionally, medical transcriptionists edit the transcribed documents and promptly print or return the finished products. All transcribing reports must adhere to policies, procedures, regulations governing patient confidentiality, and medico-legal considerations.

Medical transcriptionists are responsible for transcribing and editing medical reports, correspondence, and other documents created by physicians and other healthcare professionals. This includes patient histories, physical examination results, laboratory test results, diagnostic imaging studies, operative reports, discharge summaries, referral letters, and other medical records. In addition, medical transcriptionists may be required to perform medical coding, proofread documents, compile lists of medical terminology, and ensure accuracy and completeness of documents. They must ensure that patient information is kept confidential and adhere to established standards of documentation and coding.
